  • How do I wash my Mommy Cover?

We recommend washing your breastfeeding covers in cold water with like colors and drying on medium heat for the best results. Warm iron if needed; taking caution not to overheat the silky neckstraps. Please remove reel from your nursing cover prior to washing.

  • What are your shipping rates and what shipping methods do you offer?

Our nursing covers are shipped via USPS Priority and Express mail shipping. Rates are calculated based on quantity/weight. The standard rate is $4.60 for 1-3 covers.

  • How do I use my Mommy Cover?

We suggest trying your nursing cover a few times at home in order to help you feel more comfortable and confident the first time you use the breastfeeding cover in public. Different women prefer wearing it different ways. Try adjusting the neck strap longer or shorter to see how you prefer it. Try wearing it over one shoulder (see the gallery page to get different suggestions on how to wear your cover) or just in front. If your baby is active, become familiar with using the reel and removing it or adjusting your baby to the other side. Once you've done these at home, it will make you a much more comfortable "public nurser."

You can also visit our "How to" page for more detailed information.

  • I lost my reel, where can I get a new one?

We understand what it's like to be a mom and to have things disappear, especially after laundry day. If you misplace your reel, please contact customer service at 866.999.JOIA.

  • I’m a retailer, how can I place a wholesale order or get information on your breastfeeding covers?

Please fill out a Retail Application, and we will contact you within 2 business days regarding pricing and quantity information.

  • What does "Joia" mean, and how do you pronounce it?

The word "joia" (simply pronounced JOY-uh) means "jewel" in Portuguese. Joia founder and president, Charlie Ostrander, and her husband both speak Portuguese fluently and spent time doing humanitarian service together in Mozambique (where the national language is Portuguese).

  • I want to send the Mommy Cover as a gift to someone. Can I include a message to them?

Of course! We are happy to help you customize your gift. Please contact customer service upon placing your order, and a representative will be able to  help you. We provide a complementary card with all purchases that matches the cover you have chosen, and you can decide what you would like to have written in the card.

Gift wrapping is also available if you need.

  • What are the measurements of The Mommy Cover, and why were there two different lengths?

The Mommy Cover was originally designed to be 35" wide by 21" long. Our manufacturers made the error of cutting them too short, and rather than wasting all those perfectly usable Mommy Covers, we decided to sell them at a reduced rate during the first few months of our business. They were 18" long and still fully functional but not quite what we had requested. They are all now out of stock, and only our longer length is available to purchase. Sorry for those shorter mommies who preferred the short length!

  • Will The Mommy Cover fit plus-size mommies?

As mentioned above, our nursing covers measure 35" wide by 21" long. Most other brands on the market range between 34-36" wide and 20-25" long.

When designing The Mommy Cover, we preferred this length because the added fabric in a longer length tends to overheat baby and reduces the amount of airflow to your little one. Typically, you are not trying to cover the baby but rather your breasts!

Our unique and *patent-pending Retractable Reel System will help plus-size moms feel more at ease that the sides of the cover will stay down. And be sure to buy nursing tanks or something like the Topless Undershirt to keep your back covered if you are concerned about that. Please be aware that none of the apron-style covers will keep your back covered, no matter how long they are.

*The Mommy Cover, and many of its individual features--including but not limited to the silky neckstrap and Retractable Reel System--have U.S. and International patents pending.
